RINA CONSULTING -

CENTRO SVILUPPO MATERIALI SpA

Established in 1963 by leading steel producers to promote new steelmaking technologies, Rina-CSM joined the RINA group in 2013 while preserving its mission of transferring innovation to industry. It operates over 20 laboratories, pilot plants, and full-scale testing facilities to develop innovative materials, hydrogen solutions, and circular economy technologies. Its research spans the entire innovation chain, from steel metallurgy to advanced coatings, as well as light alloys, superalloys, ceramics, and polymers. Sustainability and decarbonization remain key priorities: RINA-CSM is testing hydrogen-based steelmaking processes, with a pilot plant at Castel Romano (Rome), aiming to drastically reduce CO₂ emissions. Its Industry 4.0 approach integrates additive manufacturing, IoT sensors, and big data analytics to boost efficiency and quality, modernizing production processes. RINA-CSM is a vital link in Europe’s research network on steel and materials, taking part in initiatives such as ESTEP, EuMaT, and RIES, and collaborating with universities and public entities like ENEA, CNR, and CIRA.

RINA-CSM acts as the coordinator of the GRANDE project, leading project management, consortium coordination, risk monitoring, and data management activities. In parallel, RINA-CSM is responsible for the manufacturing and experimental validation of innovative gas atomization nozzles through laboratory-scale trials, powder characterization, and CFD model validation. The company also supports industrial scale-up activities and leads communication, dissemination, stakeholder engagement, and exploitation actions to maximize the impact and uptake of the project results.
